As the introduction to my Pub Guide which will cover not only local UK pubs but hopefully pubs in general around the world, I have decided to dedicated thefirst pub high lighted to my very own and favourite local. The Turf Tavern, known affectionately as "Tinkys" is situated within a stones throw of where I live, just off the High Street in the village of Bloxwich, Near Walsall.Part of a Victorian terrace of about 1875 but defined as a pub but the slightly more elaborate treatment compared to the neighbouring buildings - bow windows to the ground floor with some etched glass. The central corridor leads to a large room on the left containing the quarry-tiled servery, and two rooms on the left. Hatch service in the corridor. The front left-hand room has some unusual seats with arm rests. An excellent example of an unostentatious urban Victorian pub. The fireplaces appear to be replacements of the 1920s. The rarity of such unaltered modest public houses led to its being grade II listed in January 1996.Whats most important to mention at this point is that Tinkys has a tremendous atmosphere and is quite like taking a gentle stroll back in time to an English Pub, and time, long since forgotten. Of course lets not forget that Tinkys serves some of the finest real ales available and has been rewarded many times for their quality.
